Cycle Gear Acquired By Boston Firm

BOSTON – The private equity firm J.W. Childs Associates, L.P. announced today that it has acquired a majority share of Cycle Gear.

Terms of the acquisition from Harvest Partners, L.P. were not disclosed.

Assuming the role of chairman of Cycle Gear is William E. Watts, a partner in J.W. Childs.

Cycle Gear’s founding chairman, David Bertram, is stepping down from day-to-day management of the company but will remain on the board directors.

Cycle Gear has stores in Woburn, MA; Warwick, RI; and Manchester and Orange, CT. The company was founded in 1974.
