“The Art of the Ride” Almost Ready

NEW YORK – It was summer of 2012 when RIDE-CT / RIDE-New England spotted and snapped a picture of Gary Halby taking photos in Kent, CT. His expensive Canon camera with a 70-300mm telephoto lens suggested a more substantive purpose to his effort than mere snapshots, and it was quickly determined that he was working on a coffee table book on the bikes and bikers that populate the destination town on weekends.

Now, almost three years later, Halby has a proof copy of “The Art of the Ride” (c0ver above) and expects to have it available for purchase soon. “There are just some minor tweaks that I want to do. I’m going to make some revisions,” said Halby this week from his home here. A former owner of a New York advertising agency, Halby divides his time between Manhattan and a second home in West Cornwall, CT.

“The Art of the Ride” is, in Halby’s words, “a big book.” It’s 11 1/2 inches by 15 inches and 80 pages thick. “I broke it into two sections . One section is the bikers. The second section is the bikes,” he explained.

While a price for the self-published book hasn’t been set, it will likely be hefty as well, so Halby’s also planning “a smaller version so it will be much more affordable.”

Halby had hundreds of pictures to choose from and it took countless hours to do so. “It’ been a long process,” he said.
