A Yamaha recall of six 2015 models to fix a power train problem is in the works, with 4,900 motorcycles affected.

FJ-09 left frontThe company reports FJ-09, FZ-09, FZ6R, Super Tenere and Super Tenere ES, and R6 motorcycles manufactured between Sept. 1 and Nov. 17, 2014 are being recalled.

These models “may have an incorrectly manufactured shift cam segment stopper, having a sharp edge on the inside of the bend instead of a smooth radius. As a result, the stopper can crack and possibly fracture at this sharp edge. If the stopper fractures, the transmission may not shift properly, increasing the risk of a crash.”15_FZ09_Yellow_B1

Yamaha is notifying owners this month and dealers will replace the shift shaft assembly free of charge.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recall notice is posted here.
