Rider Engulfed By Flames At Gas Pump

MARIETTA, GA – A motorcyclist was severely burned over the lower half of his body Thursday morning after becoming engulfed in flames at a gas pump.

The rider had parked his Harley-Davidson at a Chevron station and left it running when he went inside to pay. The “Marietta Daily Journal” quotes Cobb Fire Lt. Dan Dupree as saying that the rider rertuned, sat on his bike and began filling the tank, not noticing that it was overflowing.

“The gas overflowed and then ignited from the motor running, we’re assuming,” Dupree said. “He was seriously burned.”

However, surveillance show shows the rider standing beside the bike when the gas ignited. Another man dragged the rider away from the bike. The motorcyclist was airlifted to Grady Hospital.
